If so, see if AtEase is right for you.

About the Study

About 65% of U.S. Veterans have chronic pain.
Many Veterans also have high levels of stress and difficulty sleeping at night - which makes chronic pain even worse.

If that sounds like you, you may qualify to take part in a National Institutes of Health-funded study, called AtEase. The study is testing a program for Veterans to help them manage pain. There is no cost to participate, and you will be paid for your time.

Why Participate?

By joining the study, you will:

  • Get access to a free program designed to help you manage your pain
  • Explore new strategies you could try to manage your pain
  • Help us test the program to better understand how it could help you and other Veterans with chronic pain
  • No in-person participation needed

FAQs

What is the purpose of this clinical trial?
A clinical trail such as this one, is used to learn about whether or not a new, non-medical intervention helps Veterans manage pain. 

As you may know, there are many different types of research. But all must follow the rules of the Office of Human Research Protections, which is part of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services.

Will I have to pay to participate in the study?
No. If you qualify and choose to participate in this study, you will not have to pay any money. In addition, you will be paid for your time if you qualify for the study and choose to participate.

Who is conducting the study?
This study is being conducted by Pro-Change Behavior Systems, Inc. This principal investigator of the study is a trained clinical psychologist with significant expertise in behavior change.  

I’m not sure the pain I have is the right kind of pain. Can I still participate?
To see if you qualify for the study, we will ask you some questions about you and your pain. If you qualify, we will invite you to take part in the study.

How long does the study last?
If you qualify for and decide to take part in the study, we'll ask you to stay involved for 12 months. When you first join, we'll ask you to complete a survey. Then, you will be given access to the program. You can use the program as often as you'd like for 6 months. We will then ask you to take another survey after those 6 months. We'll also ask you to take one last survey 6 months after that. 

What if I join, but change my mind?
Whether you take part in this study or not is up to you. If you change your mind, you can drop out at any time.
